Dear Intimacy,
What would you have me know today?
i read an artist statement yesturday from photolucida’s critical mass photo competition. this artist statement was in the top 50 of all entries and was written by an almost 80 year old photographer! the photographer made a project about the light in their home and how one of the pleasures of their life is noticing how to the light changes over time in different rooms of their house. for them, noticing the light, is a gift of life (well, this is my interpretation of their statement). i am not almost 80, but i am seeing things differently! for one, the colours of the fall! until recently, i could have lived in summer all year round. now, however, i am appreciating the fall (and the spring!). i love the light in the fall. the sun is coming up later in the day and it has a warm quality which makes the tops of the trees glow!
den also loves the fall. if you met den, you would see that he mostly loves all things, he sees the good parts of everything including all the seasons (which for someone who loves summer, this is hard to wrap my mind around). when i met den, we had a conversation about the seasons (which i imagine a lot of new couples do), and he told me all the reasons why he loves fall. hockey starts which is followed closely by back to school (den couldn’t wait for school. again, as someone who loves summer, i often wished the summer never ended), halloween, his birthday, thanksgiving, the coldish air.
this year, i love fall! margot turned 7! miles turned 10! den is about to have a big birthday! and after the first day of school, miles told us it was the best day of his life. he loves grade 5 and he can tell he’s really changing.
here is our month in september! this song has been playing in my head on repeat! (and i often picture den as a 6 year old with his scooby doo lunch box walking to school!)
