Dear Intimacy,
What would you have me know today?
i had the privilege of spending 6 days in qualicum beach with my dad while he was in his home! my dad is home! den stayed in edmonton with the kids so i could have this time with my dad (and brother and his family). the six days were amazing. i loved every minute. even the minutes spend doing the elliptical machine at body sculptors, qualicum beach’s only gym. body sculptor’s does not have air conditioning but sells fresh eggs and cucumbers!
one of my favourite moments was when my dad and i were driving up home from the main beach. when i go to the main beach, i always take the long route back to my dad’s house. the long route involves going up the hill, past my brother, mark’s, house. every time i drive past mark’s house, i am hoping he will be standing out front his house. all of a sudden, i whip our car around and circle back because mark and alexa (my SIL) are STANDING OUT FRONT HIS HOUSE. can you believe it? my dad was bracing for impact as he felt like he got whiplash and my brother was giving me the side eye because he thought some random was driving over his grass. SYNCHRONICITY. i was so happy. i don’t know how many times i’ve driven the long route home, hoping to see mark, and on that day, there he was.
the song i chose for my slide show is green day’s time of your life. my dad and i heard this song playing when we were in town waiting in the driver’s license shop. we stopped what we were doing and remarked how profound the words were. at this time, i was thinking bille joe armstrong wrote this song when he was so young, and told this to my dad. seems like a lot of wisdom. then, and my dad does not know this part, i was trying my very best not to cry. i played this song in the car last week while i was driving miles, margot, and margot’s friend to our friend’s lemonade stand. when the lyrics started playing, all kids stopped their noise and listened to the entire song. then, they all thoughtfully considered how nice the song was. the rambunctiousness started immediately once the song ended.
ONE MORE THING. we have a new puppy! you will meet fritzgerald (fritzie, fritz) in the slideshow. he was born june 26 and den brought him home when he was 6 weeks old. he’s amazing and we take him everywhere!
