Dear Intimacy,

What would you have me know today?

i did it! it made a 2-point perspective drawing. very early on saturday morning, i decided to try and draw our kitchen and main entryway. i was drawing beside margot and miles who were also trying the 2-point perspective drawing. when we draw i play classical music because i usually need calming down. not even classical music could help the loud and angry vibes within our kitchen. the funny thing was, i was so focused on my drawing, i stopped hearing all the screaming (i was in the zone! drawing our kitchen, line by line).

the screaming was coming from miles. miles is a perfectionist, and a 2-point drawing is difficult! when miles’ actual drawing didn’t match what he saw in his head, he had a world war III temper tantrum. and this was not the first WWIII tantrum of the morning. i chose to focus on my drawing (i find it too emotionally draining to engage during these times) and eventually miles tired himself out and calmed down.

my attempt at a 2-point perspective drawing. i am proud of myself!

miles’ abandoned 2-point perspective drawing

margot’s drawings! look where i am…in the kitchen. i feel like i spend half my life making snacks standing in the spot margot drew my name and then drew me (below)!

the funny thing about drawing is that drawing is calming. meditative (like running). today is sunday and miles, again, had many WWIII tantrums. i decided to make sure me, margot, and miles were safe but to let him go. and then when he was calm(ish) tell him we love him very much and he’s always welcome to talk with me about what’s bothering him. i think it took a lot for miles to ask, but he asked if him and i could draw together. and if we could try a perspective drawing of the front of our house. so, while margot sat inside and watched go, dog, go! miles and i sat outside drawing. we probably spent 20 minutes drawing, not saying a lot, but drawing together! one of the best parts of my day.

the front of our house. miles and i noticed how many different textures our house has! on a quick glance, our house looks like a tall, skinny box. but! when you spend time looking, our house is complex and interesting.

miles drew our house by sitting directly facing our house and i sat off to the side so we saw differently! it was fun to change positions and see what the other person saw!

(i want to add that i wish my mom were here). i added this after pressing publish
