Dear Intimacy,

What would you have me know today?

our actual life (april 2025)

I’ve been sending my dad a daily baseball haiku for the past month. For some reason, Miles and I were chatting about these daily baseball haikus and Miles decided to make a baseball haiku one day to share with my dad. [LARGE HEART EMOJI]. Miles’ haiku is the opening to my slideshow.

I’m participating in a long-term (going on two years) photographing mentoring program with my friends Sara, Mark (our TA), and Jenna Shouldice (mentor). A few months ago Jenna asked us to choose a poem which resonates with us and our work. I chose Ada Limon’s The Raincoat (The last line gets me every time). Jenna then asked us to (of course) journal, using many prompts, about the poem, our feelings, emotions, memories. I’ve had this poem accompanied by a memory stuck in my mind this month. My memory is when I was about 3 or 4 years old. My family had moved from White Rock, BC to Edmonton, AB, for a very brief time. My mom and I were walking across a busy street using the cross walk and I was holding her hand. I saw a rainbow and I remember stopping and marveling at how such a beautiful thing could exist in the sky.
